Frauen Bundesliga 1. Season Kicks off this weekend: Tiffany Cameron and Borussia Mönchengladbach

The past two months of preseason have been quite strenuous, but a lot of fun. So far it has been exciting getting to know my teammates and seeing what qualities they each bring to the team. This Sunday we play our season opener against Frankfurt in Frankfurt. Away games are the most difficult to play in, but I am excited for the challenge and to bring a bit of my Canadian swag onto the pitch. Last week my team finished our preseason strong, playing two games against two different Dutch teams and winning both games 3-0. I was able to contribute two goals out of the six we scored during the week. It’s never easy adjusting to a new team right away as a foreigner, but it has been a pretty smooth transition improving every week.

Outside of soccer, my mom and sister were able to spend a solid two weeks with me in Germany and we had an amazing time. We were able to explore the beautiful cities; Köln, Düsseldorf, Duisburg and Centraal Amsterdam. Time absolutely flew by with them, but they made August go by fast and now I am ready for season! Below are some good times spent with my family and friends the past two weeks.

Professional Soccer Player, Tiffany Cameron Releases Music Video: Lose Before You Win

Below is the official music video for a song I wrote and recorded about my 3-year journey so far as a pro athlete; both ups and downs. My aim is to inspire those who may need an extra push to go get where they want to be and also make it known that one can never get too comfortable in any situation. Cherish every moment in life.

Previous clubs and more information pertaining to my playing career:

  1. After graduating from The Ohio State University as the all-time leading goal scorer, I signed my first professional contract with Seattle Reign FC in February 2013 (NWSL).

2.  I got released from Seattle Reign FC June 19th, due to the team’s constant losses in 2013 and my lack of experience and ability to make a big difference on the field as a striker. On June 26th, 2013 I signed with FC Kansas City for the remainder of the season (NWSL).

3. February 2, 2014 I signed my first professional contract overseas in the Frauen 1. Bundesliga with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Due to an early injury a few days before season kicked off it was a challenge to get back to my maximum, but I still participated in 7/12 matches finishing the season with a goal and three assists.

23.03.2014 TSG 1899 Hoffenheim - Bayer 04 Leverkusen 5:3 (2:2)

4. March 9, 2015, I signed with Apollon Ladies FC  to participate in the UEFA Champions League group stage matches in August. I made three Champions League appearances and scored three goals. Unfortunately our team lost our last game and failed to advance to the round of 32s.

5. October 1, 2015, I signed with F.C Ramat HaSHaron in the Israeli top-division Israeli First League. I won the golden boot, scoring 38 goals in 24 matches and helped my team capture their first ever League Championship.

6. On June 7, 2016, I signed with Borussia VFL 1900 Mönchengladbach who was promoted to the German Bundesliga for the 2016/2017 season.

Tiffany Cameron’s Lose Before You Win Music Video Release Date: August 7, 2016

I’m really excited to announce that a project that I’ve been working on since 2013 is finally complete. In my music video I will take the world through the ups and downs from when I first began playing soccer to my professional career after graduating from The Ohio State University as the top leading goal scorer. What separates me from any other female athlete in the world is my ability to write and record inspirational music. It has been my passion since the age of 10 and I am excited to finally walk everyone through my journey as a professional athlete.

I was pleased to feature in my video Canadian National Team players; Kadeisha Buchanan, Ashley Lawrence and Nichelle Prince who are currently preparing for their first match on August 3rd at the Olympics. These three girls have always been good friends and supporters of my career and I’ve had the pleasure of representing my country with them playing in a Canadian jersey.

The four of us on set.

It was also a pleasure working with my mother who is the one who pushed me multiple times to stay disciplined when I was ready to call it quits at the age of 14. A special thanks to my sister, boyfriend and elementary school friend for also being a part of my music video and for being such a great support system around me.

Most importantly my videographer, Janelle Grins who made this project possible. We met my first year of high school and from there we stayed good friends. She has spent many years building her career up as a professional photographer and I felt she would be the perfect person to help me share with the world an emotional and amazing past 3 years I have had as a professional athlete.

From signing my first professional contract in 2013 with Seattle Reign FC, to being waived because our team was struggling to win and I wasn’t doing enough on the field to help overcome that obstacle. To being picked up a few days later by FC Kansas City, finishing the season with them with limited game time and then signing my first contract overseas in 2014 with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. After a few weeks into preseason I suffered from an injury missing the first couple of games and returned, scoring my first professional goal and finishing with a few assists in the 8 appearances out of 12 games we played. Later from 2015 to 2016 I signed with Ramat HaSharon in Israel and lead the league in goals scoring 38 in 24 appearances; helping the team win their first ever League Championship.

And now….I’m back playing in the Bundesliga.

I have had quite the journey and I truly believe that sometimes you have to move back a couple of steps to move forward again. I’ve felt the pain of not being good enough throughout certain points in my career. That unsatisfying feeling has pushed me to be better. I’m excited to play for a year with Borussia Mönchengladbach and I am looking forward to making a difference using the experience I have gained throughout the past 3 years. This is my story in a nutshell, but there is so much more to discover about me and my journey in the music video.  Oh and if you don’t know about Ladiie Spitz, you should probably check her out below so you can get a feel of what’s yet to come.

Tiffany Cameron touching base from Germany: Ich bin zurück!

Let me start off with a very personal message I wrote to myself back in April.

My mission

It has been a few years since I have been a constant member of the Canadian Women’s National Team, so it was a lot more challenging to get offered a contract in a top league. In my case, a tryout was required if I wanted to get offered a contract to play back in the Frauen Bundesliga; which is arguably the best league in the world for women’s soccer alongside of the NWSL. I’ve played in both leagues and I enjoy the European style of play more, but the NWSL is a great league as well and I would love to play back in that league within the next year or two.  Needless to say, it feels damn good to be back in Germany playing for Borussia Mönchengladbach for the 2016/2017 season!

The first week of preseason was tough, but also enjoyable. The entire team welcomed me with open arms and I was really excited about how many of my teammates and coaching staff could speak and understand English. This has made my transition onto the team easy. Although language is not as big of a barrier as it was in my previous experience playing in Germany two years ago, I will be learning deutsche through an online course called Rosetta Stone. One of my goals is to be able to fluently speak the language by the time my season ends next year.

Special thanks to the Canadian Sport Institute of Ontario who hooked me up with Rosetta Stone.

Off the field, I’ve enjoyed hanging out with my new roommate and new teammates. Although Germany lost against France in the semi finals of the Euro Cup, I enjoyed watching the game with a few of my teammates and ended up in a German National Team jersey hahaha!

The summer here in Germany hasn’t been as nice as the summer I recently experienced in Canada, but my roommate, a couple of her friends and I were able to catch a beautiful day by a public swimming pool near our apartment.

Tiffany Cameron Celebrating a Championship in Israel and Making History!

What an amazing season! My team went through many ups and downs, but managed to pull off winning a Championship Title for the first time in our club’s history.  This hands down has felt like the longest season of my life, but has definitely paid off with some amazing memories. Our team sealed the Championship in our 1-0 win over the second place team May 22nd and later went on to win our last game of the season 1-0 on May 26th. In the end we finished top of the table 8 points ahead of the 2nd place team. Scoring 112 goals collectively as a team and having only 17 goals against us over a span of 24 games in total. I managed to score 38 goals this season and I am very happy to have made a great impact on the field and help my team win a Championship. Coming to Israel, one of my goals as a foreigner was to be an impact player and help the team win a Championship.

A special thanks to my friend Karin Sendel who was the one who suggested that I come down to Israel and play for her team while I figured out my next move professionally. We both played on the women’s soccer team for The Ohio State University and boy were we ever happy to reunite on the field. She’s one of the best midfielder to striker connections I have had my entire career and is an amazing person both on and off the field. True friends stay connected regardless of where they are in the world and she is someone who I am extremely happy I didn’t let slip through my fingers.

Holding our Championship Plates with Ohio State in mind!

So after our team sealed our Championship we met with the mayor of the city and later decided that we were going to celebrate for an entire week straight. Hahahaha let’s just say things got really wild, but were memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Below is a slideshow of a few memories of my amazing week with my teammates.

Thank you Ramat Hasharon for making this season an amazing one! Champions are formed by paying attention to the little details both on and off the field  in order to achieve greatness even if obstacles get in the way. Set your mind to greatness and you will achieve nothing less!

It’s time for me to go back to Canada and catch up with some friends and family! Until next time folks! Stay tuned to hear about what’s next for me in my career. I plan on ending 2016 strong! Am I wrong? 😉

Underdogs Get Hungry Too!

As a professional athlete sometimes your career gets set back from injuries, your own personal battles or simply just not being good enough during a certain period of time. It’s okay to fail! It’s okay to be told no! It’s okay to take some time to work on your own growth! I truly believe when the time is right, it will come. I’ve personally gone through what I just mentioned above and I’m more than happy to say that I am back on track where I want to be. In a few months I will be playing back in one of the top leagues in the world for women’s soccer. This was one of my personal goals going into 2016. If I didn’t take some risks and didn’t believe I could do it again I would have never been able to achieve it. The mind is a very powerful tool. If you use it correctly, nothing or nobody can stop you from achieving what you want. If you’re sitting on your ass right now and not happy with where you’re in your life, go do something about it. Actions speak louder than words.

Leicester City F.C Premier League Champions 2015/2016

One very inspiring event this year that was said to also be one of the biggest sporting upsets ever in history was this shocking victory above. Leicester just got promoted to the Premier league after winning their 2013-2014 in the second highest league in England and decided to go ahead and win their first Premier league championship this year.  Who would have thought? Prior to this their second closest run at a championship was from 1928-1929 where they finished second in the top division.

Note: For all of those people who told you that you couldn’t do something, be a Leicester player and hold up your trophy proud when you prove them wrong. Whether its finally getting that job you’ve always wanted, that man or woman of your dreams or that dream car or house that you’ve been saving up for.

I have two and a half weeks left here in Israel and I’m only one win away next Sunday from also making history and bringing my current team to their first Championship ever!  With two games left everything is now in our hands and as a foreign player it is my responsibility to show everyone where the hell I came from…Canada!

Underdogs get hungry too.

Two wins away from winning a Championship

This week was quite an entertaining one between the playoffs and celebrating Passover with teammates. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed playoffs the past couple of weeks in particular. Here in Israel once every team has played each other twice during the first segment of season, the top 5 teams are selected to play against each other another two times in the playoffs. The points collected by the top 5 teams during playoffs are added on to the points each team collected during the first segment of season and the team with the most points ends up with the championship. In my opinion this is a strange concept of playoffs, but I guess not every league works the same. We won our 5th playoff game 3-0 with one man down against a team that has beaten every other team in the playoffs, but us. Oddly enough this team is too many points behind the top of the table to win a league title, but for some reason they have been beating teams ranked higher than them in the playoffs. There is something to say about underdogs playing when they feel no pressure; that’s for sure. During our game we lost our top defender about 30 minutes into the game from a red card, but that didn’t faze us because everyone knew our end goal which was to do whatever it took to win the game. It was a battle, but our entire team had to step up and give a little bit extra in order to walk away with the victory. In my opinion it was ranked amongst the top 3 sweetest victories all season long. Check out a video I put together of our team’s quest to winning Ramat Hasharon’s first Championship title.

We have three more playoff games, but must win two to secure the title. Our team has dealt with multiple injuries throughout the season, have gone through two red cards and have lost two valuable players for important matches, but have been able to rise to the occasion. For now we must focus on the task ahead of us and not lose sight of the love of the game. I personally have the most fun on the field when I play free and remember that soccer is just a game.

For a week, Israelis celebrate the Passover which is remembering when their people were once exiled from their country over 3000 years ago and finally returned back to their home land. I am happy to be a part of celebrating this holiday to learn more about the history behind this beautiful country. It just makes me appreciate the finer things in life now like family, friends, good health and a roof over my head.

Although things are not perfect in the world, I am free.

Love the Process

hotI’ve always believed that the best part of life is its journey. It’s not all about your expectation on where you should be at a certain age, it’s about embracing where you are and achieving a greater purpose each day you wake up. The reality is, SHIT happens. Yes I said it! Things might not go according to plan all the time, but you must believe that you’re good enough to achieve greatness if you put your mind, body and soul into everything you do. You never know who is watching you at the end of the day….

I personally haven’t achieved every single goal I’ve set in life, but I’m glad because I wouldn’t be the same person I am today. The challenges I’ve faced earlier in my professional career have molded me into a stronger and more confident individual on and off the field. I’m really looking forward to the remainder of this year when I get another opportunity to play again in a top league.

For now I am focused on finishing the playoff season strong with my team here in Israel and enjoying every moment of it. My team won our first two playoff games 2-0 and 4-2 with me contributing to a few goals.  If we stay consistent on the field, we have a big shot at winning the championship for the first time in Ramat Hasharon history. On Thursday we play against a team that has managed to beat us once and tie us. They are the only team in the league that we haven’t beaten, so it should be a battle on the field and a good game.

On a fun note, a few weeks ago I was able to float in the Dead Sea and ride a camel for the first time. It was such an awesome experience and I recommend everyone to do this if they ever get a chance to visit Israel. Check out some pictures below!

I’ll leave you all with one of my favourite gospel songs. Everything happens for a reason and God has a plan for everyone. It’s not always about who finishes the race first, it’s about who completes it when all odds may seem like they are against them.

I can do all things, through Christ who strengthens me. -Phillippians 4:13

Home for the March Break: Toronto, Ontario

I must say it’s never easy being away from home for months at a time, but whenever I get the opportunity to come home for a quick visit I definitely embrace every moment of it. Below are some of the amazing times I spent in Canada during March Break.

  1. Ballers Bistro

For those of you who don’t know, this is a restaurant/bar where you can play ‘pool soccer.’ Imagine following the rules of pool, but instead using your feet rather than your hands. It’s pretty much soccer heaven for any soccer player. I was happy to invite out some of my good friends from the Canadian National Team; Kadeisha Buchanan, Ashley Lawrence and Nichelle Prince. We all had an amazing time and let’s just say the non soccer players managed to shine. This experience was definitely one of my top moments spent in Canada.

2. CN Tower and dinner on the 18th floor of Park Hyatt hotel in Toronto with my boyfriend.

This was amongst my top moments while being in Canada because I got to spend time in the best city in Canada with an incredible man. We went to the CN Tower, which is currently the tallest freestanding structure in the western hemisphere and the 7th largest in the world. It stands at 1,815.4 feet and the Burj Khalifa in Dubai currently holds the world’s record of the highest freestanding structure standing at 2,722 feet tall. It was nice to revisit the glass floor and skypod in the CN Tower. For those of you who don’t know, the skypod is one of the highest observation platforms in the world.

3. Going out to dinner with my mother, sister, aunt and my second cousins.

We went to an amazing Indian restaurant called Bombay Bhel and had some good laughs and caught up. Nothing better than a time well spent with family.

4. Catching up and laughing with my childhood friend, Daniella.

Friends come and go, but the best ones remain in your life. Daniella and I have known each other for just over 16 years, so you can imagine how it is when we reunite after I’ve been out of the country for a while. I’m honoured to have her in my life because she is one of those friends who I trust with my heart to be there and give me advice when I need it the most. A true friend is someone who can tell you when you are being a complete idiot, whipe away your tears when you are upset, celebrate your successes and pat you on the back during your failures. Hold onto those type of friends in your life because they are rare. Thank you for being you Daniella.

5. Last but not least taking a few fun pictures for this company I work for called SportsFood Inc.

SportsFood Inc has recently created an electrolyte spray that works like a charm. The liposomal technology made in the spray acts as the delivery system of the vitamins and electrolytes absorbed in your body when you use the product. They are encapsulated to a size so small that when used it enters the system rapidly and doesn’t have to go through the GI tract. As a result, you are getting an immediate delivery of the vitamins and electrolytes. As a striker I am constantly making explosive movements on the field and my lactic acid buildup is pretty high. This product works for me because it reduces muscle cramps and helps regenerate my body keeping me hydrated. The electrolyte sprays come in mixed berry and vanilla flavours. If you are interested in purchasing them online, visit our website and type in my coupon code, “TC11” to receive 20% off your purchase. I’m excited to use the spray throughout playoffs here in Israel.

Go Canada! Salutes to Nichelle, Ashley and Kadeisha by Tiffany Cameron

Good luck to the Canadian National Team in Houston playing in the Olympic Qualifiers. I’m excited to see where the new young talent will take Canada in the near future.

Shout outs to my little Buckeye, Nichelle Prince for finding herself back with the senior team. It took about 3 years for her to get back in the mix, but she worked her ass off back on the big stage. I’m proud of her and despite her age, she still finds ways to motivate me. I’m right behind you sweetie 😉

Shout outs to my good friend Ashley Lawrence. Three goals against Guyana in the Olympic qualifiers? Well excuse me! She’s a phenomenal example for everyone around her and is another player I respect a ton. I remember the first year we were both with the senior national team and I was thinking to myself damn this girl is good why isn’t she playing much? Well after a year with the squad she just blew up out of no where and now she has found herself being a consistent starter. Hard work pays off!

Hahaha onto this joker I know Kadeisha Buchanan.  A player straight out of Brams United that has managed to drop jaws. I salute her and I think she is one of the most humble and down to earth players I know in the spotlight. I’ll never forget when we were roommates for a National team camp in China for the first time and we were never roommates again because we were so damn loud! Hahaha! Can’t wait to do our dance one day on the field!

Sometimes during the journey to the top players experience self confidence issues, injuries, bench warming or face other barriers. The most important thing is believing in your capabilities. Outside voices telling you that you can’t do something should just be the fuel to your fire. After getting to know these girls on a personal level, they too have gone through at least one of these barriers and have managed to overcome them.

As for myself. I’ve been through some ups and downs throughout my career, but this year has started off with a bang for me and it’s about to get a hell of a lot more interesting. Stay tuned! I’m about to Missy Elliot ya’ll real soon! EHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
